Enjoy short, accessible walks around a heritage-rich area of Christchurch.

This app, and the walking routes, have been designed and developed with people with dementia and their carer in mind, but is accessible to all. Our aim is to provide tried and tested routes suitable for a gentle stroll which are both safe and easy to navigate. As well as providing health benefits through outdoor activity, the walks also include stopping points that give fascinating insights into some of the most curious features in Christchurch’s historic environment. All the walks have the option to be viewed and downloaded before you set out to help you prepare for your stroll. We also encourage your feedback and comments after using the app, to help us continue to improve further.

Each walk starts and ends at the Red House Museum on Quay Road, Christchurch, and takes in a curious ‘point of interest’ which you will come across on your chosen route. The app is Bluetooth Beacon and GPS enabled. This is to show you relevant content based on your location along the trail and immediate area.

The app uses Location Services and Bluetooth Low Energy to determine your location when the app is running in the background. It will trigger notifications when you are close to a location of interest. We have used GPS and Bluetooth Low Energy in a power-efficient way. However, as with all apps that use location, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

This app has been developed as part of the National Lottery Heritage Funded, Still Curious Project at the Red House Museum, Christchurch. Visit our website to find out more about other dementia-friendly activities at the museum, and to book a place on our Tuesday Strolls; guided walks for people with dementia and their carers.
